PREMIUM LOGISTICS SERVICES

Premium Logistics for Freight That Can't Be Late

Premium logistics is a promise: this shipment gets there on time, in one piece, with someone watching it the whole way. Keeping that promise takes dedicated capacity and a backup plan before anything goes wrong.

AirFreight.com keeps it by air or by dedicated ground. We book a whole truck, a priority flight or a chartered aircraft, depending on the distance and the deadline. Your expediter flags problems before you have to ask.

The premium tier earns its cost on shipments where being late is expensive. Think production lines, aircraft on the ground, medical procedures and project deadlines. For freight that can wait a day, standard service saves money, and we'll tell you when that's the better choice.

Here is what the premium tier includes and when it is worth it.

AIR FREIGHT Icon of a plane flying over boxes

Priority Air Freight

Urgent freight gets a priority booking on the first suitable flight, with trucks at both ends. Fewer handoffs mean less waiting and less risk of damage. Your expediter tracks every milestone and tells you right away if anything changes.

AIR CHARTER Icon of a charter aircraft

Dedicated Air Charter

A whole aircraft flies your freight direct when no scheduled flight fits. It is the top of the premium tier for critical shipments. We size the aircraft to the load and fly it to the airport closest to the delivery.

Your freight, your schedule

Premium service gives one shipment its own vehicle or priority booking and a committed delivery time.

Premium logistics Definition

What premium logistics actually means

Premium logistics is the top tier of freight service, where one shipment gets its own capacity and a committed delivery time. Most freight rides shared, scheduled networks, moving through terminals and transfers on someone else's timetable. A premium move removes those steps, which cuts the waiting and lowers the risk of damage or a missed connection.

The tier comes with a time-definite delivery window, one point of contact and tracking that reports problems before you have to ask. Some shippers call it precision logistics. Many unrelated companies also trade under the name Premium Logistics, and this page covers the service tier itself.

AirFreight.com moves premium freight from your dock to final delivery with no terminal stops.

Rule of thumb

Weigh the cost of late

Premium freight pays when a missed deadline costs more than the move itself.

Standard vs premium When it pays

Standard freight versus premium service

Standard freight shares a truck or a flight with other shipments, so it moves through terminals and transfers on an estimated schedule. Premium service sits a step above it: your shipment gets the whole vehicle or a priority booking, fewer handling touches and a committed delivery window. Problems are flagged as they happen, and the cost reflects the vehicle or booking reserved for you.

The premium tier works well for freight where a late arrival costs more than the move. That includes production parts for a stopped line, aircraft parts for a grounded plane, medical devices and trade show freight. High-value or fragile goods benefit from fewer transfers too.

Standard freight remains the better buy for flexible deadlines and regular replenishment. We match the level of service to your deadline, so your freight gets premium handling only when it needs it.

Three ways to fly premium

Next flight out, hand carry or air charter, with dedicated ground for shorter lanes.

Air and ground By air

Premium by air, with ground as backup

While a dedicated truck gives you the most control on the road, air is often faster for long distances and tight deadlines. Air delivers premium service at three levels. Next flight out puts your freight on the first scheduled departure with space, with trucks at both ends. Hand carry sends a courier on a passenger flight with a small critical item, and air charter books a whole aircraft on your schedule.

For shorter lanes, dedicated ground is also far more practical than flying. A Sprinter van, straight truck or team truckload drives straight to the delivery dock, and it takes freight too large for a scheduled flight. Distance, the size of the aircraft or vehicle, after-hours timing and handling all affect the cost.

AirFreight.com arranges every one of these options across North America. We match the mode to your deadline and the size of the load.

USDOT and MC numbers

Look both up in FMCSA's SAFER system and confirm the authority matches the role.

Verification How to check

How to verify any logistics company

Legitimate brokers and carriers usually register with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, including a USDOT number and an MC number. This means a shipper can check any provider whenever a new name appears on a quote. Look up both numbers in FMCSA's SAFER and Licensing and Insurance systems.

Confirm that the authority type matches the role, with broker authority for a broker and carrier authority for a carrier. Check that insurance and the broker bond are on file and active. Then match the legal name, address and phone number to the company you are talking to. Take extra care when the authority is brand new and the freight is high value.

AirFreight.com's dispatch team is available around the clock, including weekends and holidays, so you can book premium logistics at any hour. We make sure your shipment is tracked from pickup to delivery.

Before you tender freight

Check a logistics provider in six steps

Run these checks before you hand freight to any broker or carrier. Most take a few minutes on public FMCSA systems and a phone call.

  1. 01

    Confirm name and address

Ask for the company's full legal name, physical address and main phone number. A real provider gives these plainly and they match its paperwork.

    • Legal name
    • Physical address
  2. 02

    Look up USDOT and MC

Search the USDOT and MC numbers in FMCSA's SAFER system. Check that the record is active and that the name and address match.

    • SAFER
    • USDOT number
    • MC number
  3. 03

    Check the authority type

Make sure the authority fits the role. A broker needs broker authority, and a carrier hauling your freight needs carrier authority.

    • Broker authority
    • Carrier authority
  4. 04

    Confirm insurance and bond

Use FMCSA's Licensing and Insurance system to see that insurance is on file. A broker should also show an active surety bond or trust fund.

    • BMC-84 bond
    • Insurance on file
  5. 05

    Watch for red flags

Be wary of changed contact details, emails from look-alike domains, pressure to pay outside normal terms, or a carrier you never booked showing up. These signal double brokering or identity fraud.

    • Double brokering
    • Chameleon carriers
  6. 06

    Get terms in writing

Before pickup, get the rate, the service level, pickup and delivery details and the payment terms in a written confirmation. Keep it with your shipping records.

    • Rate confirmation

Requirements differ for brokers, carriers and forwarders; confirm current rules with FMCSA.

What to expect

Early warnings, real backups

You hear about a delay when it starts, along with the plan to recover the deadline.

After booking What to expect

What happens after you book premium freight

As soon as you request a quote, you'll be paired with a dedicated expediter who plans the move around your deadline. Once you book, that person confirms the flight or vehicle, the pickup time and the cutoff. Pickup is dispatched, and your freight moves on the aircraft or truck chosen for it.

During the move, your expediter reports each milestone, such as pickup, departure, arrival and delivery. If a flight slips or a connection is at risk, you hear about it early, along with the backup plan. That plan might be the next flight, a charter or a dedicated truck, and proof of delivery closes the move.

At AirFreight.com, you'll work one-on-one with that same expediter from the first call to final delivery. Tell us what you need to move, and we'll handle the rest.

First time customer. Communication was fantastic throughout the entire process and is sincerely appreciated. Our customer shared an update this morning that the driver texted a little before 5 am that he would be there at 8. That’s exactly when he pulled in. She said it was a much easier process than she ever thought it would be and was very grateful.

Zero problems, ahead of schedule

My only criticism is that there isn’t an option for more than five stars. I’ve been burned by more hotshot brokers than I can count, and this is the first time I’ve had a shipment show up ahead of schedule with absolutely zero damage or tampering. I could not recommend AirFreight more strongly, we will be using them exclusively going forward. A bit higher priced but frankly inexpensive compared to the problems caused by prior shippers. 11/10, no notes.

Premium Logistics Questions Answered

What is premium logistics?

Premium logistics is the highest tier of freight service. A shipment gets its own capacity, such as a dedicated truck, a priority airline booking or a chartered aircraft, instead of sharing space with other freight. It comes with a committed delivery window, one point of contact and tracking that reports problems as they happen. Shippers use it when a late or damaged shipment would cost more than the move itself. The term describes a level of service, and many unrelated companies also use Premium Logistics as a business name. When you research a provider by that name, check its legal name and federal registration so you know which company you are dealing with.

What is premium freight?

Premium freight is any shipment moved at a higher service level than the standard network offers, usually to make up lost time. Manufacturers often use the term for parts expedited to keep a production line running. It can move by air, as next flight out, hand carry or charter. It can also move by dedicated ground, in a van or truck that drives straight to the delivery dock. Premium freight costs more than standard freight because the vehicle or booking is reserved for one shipment. Many companies track premium freight spending closely, since frequent premium moves can point to planning or supplier problems upstream.

Is logistics the same as trucking?

No. Trucking is one mode of transportation, run by carriers that own trucks and employ or contract drivers. Logistics is the broader work of planning and coordinating how goods move, which can include trucks, aircraft, rail, ocean shipping, warehousing and paperwork. A trucking company hauls the freight on the road. A logistics provider may arrange that truck, book a flight, schedule a warehouse, or combine several modes for one shipment. Many logistics providers do not own trucks at all. When you hire a provider, ask which parts of the move it performs itself and which parts it arranges with others.

Who are logistics providers?

Logistics providers are companies that move freight or arrange its movement for shippers. Asset-based carriers own trucks or aircraft. Freight brokers arrange shipments with licensed carriers. Freight forwarders handle international shipments and customs paperwork. Third-party logistics companies, or 3PLs, manage warehousing, distribution and ongoing transportation programs. Some providers combine several roles under one company. The right type depends on the job. Urgent domestic freight often suits a broker that can switch modes, while an international import may need a forwarder, and an outsourced distribution program may suit a 3PL.

What is the difference between a freight broker and a carrier?

A carrier owns or leases the equipment and physically moves the freight. A freight broker arranges the shipment, matches it with a licensed carrier, and manages the move on the shipper's behalf without owning the trucks. In the United States, brokers that arrange truck freight need broker authority from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. They must also keep a surety bond or trust fund on file. Carriers need their own operating authority and insurance. Brokers are useful when you need capacity quickly, want options across several modes, or prefer one contact who manages the whole move from pickup to delivery.

What is precision logistics?

Precision logistics is a term some shippers and providers use for freight moves planned to a narrow, committed time window. The focus is on accuracy as much as speed: the right freight at the right dock at the agreed time, with no surprises along the way. In practice it overlaps heavily with premium logistics. Both rely on dedicated capacity, fewer handoffs and close monitoring of each milestone. Precision moves are common in just-in-time manufacturing, trade show setups, construction projects and healthcare deliveries. In these jobs, arriving early can be almost as disruptive as arriving late.

What does exclusive use mean in freight?

Exclusive use means one shipper reserves the entire vehicle or aircraft for its shipment. No other freight is loaded with it, so the truck or plane goes straight from pickup to delivery without stops for other customers. Exclusive use reduces handling, which lowers the risk of damage and loss, and it removes the delays of terminals and transfers. It costs more than shared space because the shipper pays for the whole vehicle. Exclusive-use trucks and charter aircraft are common for urgent production parts, high-value goods, hazardous materials that need special handling, and loads that must arrive by a fixed time.

What is double brokering?

Double brokering happens when a carrier or broker accepts a load and then passes it to another carrier without the shipper's knowledge or consent. In its fraudulent form, the party in the middle collects payment and leaves the actual carrier unpaid. Sometimes the freight ends up with an unknown company that is not insured for it. It can lead to delays, cargo theft and unpaid claims. Warning signs include a different carrier name on the truck at pickup, changed contact details, and pressure to pay outside normal terms. Checking a provider's registration and getting written confirmations helps shippers spot it early.

What is a USDOT number and an MC number?

A USDOT number is a unique identifier issued by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to companies that operate commercial vehicles in interstate commerce. It is used to track safety records, inspections and crashes. An MC number shows that a company holds operating authority, which is required for for-hire carriers and for freight brokers that arrange interstate truck shipments. A broker's MC number is tied to broker authority, and a carrier's is tied to carrier authority. Shippers can look up both numbers in FMCSA's SAFER and Licensing and Insurance systems to confirm a company is active and insured.

What is the biggest problem in logistics?

There is no single answer, but a few problems come up again and again. Capacity swings make trucks and aircraft hard to find during peak periods and cheap during slow ones. Delays caused by weather, congestion and equipment problems ripple through tight supply chains. Fraud, including double brokering and identity theft of carrier credentials, has grown as more freight is booked online. Poor visibility means shippers often learn about a problem only after a deadline is missed. Premium service addresses several of these at once, through reserved capacity, a single accountable contact and early warnings when something changes.
