Frequently Asked Questions
What experience do I need to become an agent?
We require our agents to have significant industry experience – generally at least 5+ years in freight brokerage, logistics, or transportation sales. You should have a strong understanding of air and ground freight services, carrier networks, and shipping procedures. The ideal candidate is a knowledgeable self-starter who can operate autonomously from day one (with some training on our specific systems). In addition to experience, we value core traits like honesty, ownership, problem-solving skills, and the ability to stay calm under pressure – these qualities are what make a great AirFreight.com agent.
How do agents earn, and how often are commissions paid?
AirFreight.com agents earn revenue through a commission split on each load they arrange (meaning you take home a generous percentage of the profit on every shipment). Your earning potential is uncapped. Commissions are paid out weekly, ensuring you receive your earnings promptly and regularly. You can focus on moving freight and growing your business, and we’ll make sure you get paid for it.
Do I need to bring my own customers, or will AirFreight.com provide leads?
Building a customer base is part of being an independent agent, but you won’t be on your own. We certainly encourage agents to create shipper relationships but AirFreight.com also invests heavily in marketing that generates inbound leads for our agents. Our premier websites rank at the top of search results for time-critical freight services, which means shippers in need of urgent deliveries often come to us first. Many of those new customer inquiries are passed along to our agent network. In addition, you’ll have access to our cutting-edge sales and marketing tools (CRM, email campaigns, promotional materials, etc.) to help you prospect and win new clients. In short, you’ll build your book of business and benefit from the strong deal flow our brand attracts.
What support and resources does AirFreight.com provide to agents?
When you join our team, you gain full back-office support from AirFreight.com’s experienced staff. This includes a dedicated operations support team (seasoned expeditors and dispatchers) who assist with carrier sourcing, load tracking, and problem resolution 24/7. You’ll be using our state-of-the-art technology platform – a cloud-based TMS, load boards, tracking tools, and payment processing systems – all provided to you at no cost. We also handle administrative tasks like credit checks, invoicing customers, paying carriers, and compliance. Additionally, every agent receives one-on-one training during onboarding and ongoing help whenever needed (for example, business coaching, sales strategy, IT support, etc.). We take care of the heavy lifting behind the scenes so you can focus on servicing your customers and scaling your business.
Do I need my own freight broker license or insurance?
No – one big advantage of partnering with AirFreight.com is that you do not need to obtain your own brokerage authority, bond, or cargo insurance. You will operate under AirFreight.com’s existing licenses and certifications. We maintain all required credentials – including a federal freight broker license, the $75,000 surety broker bond, and comprehensive liability and cargo insurance coverage for the shipments. This means you don’t have to worry about the cost or hassle of legal compliance. We’ve got the regulatory side covered, allowing you to start moving freight without setting up your own LLC, MC number, or insurance policies.
Does it cost anything to join the agent program?
There are no franchise fees, sign-up fees, or hidden costs to join AirFreight.com’s agent program. We offer a quick and easy startup with no heavy upfront investment. Essentially, you’re getting a turn-key business model – we provide the technology, training, carrier network, and back-office support free of charge. The only costs you incur are your own business expenses (like your phone, internet, and any travel or marketing you choose to do). Other than that, you can launch your agency under our umbrella with virtually no overhead, allowing you to become profitable faster.
How long does it take to get started once I sign up?
Our onboarding process is streamlined to get you up and running quickly. Once you’re approved as an agent, we’ll send you an agent agreement and set up your credentials in our system. You can typically be fully operational within a few days of approval (in some cases as fast as 24–48 hours). We provide immediate training on our software and processes, and our team will walk you through your first loads to ensure you’re comfortable. In short, you won’t be waiting long – we know time is money, and we strive to integrate new agents as efficiently as possible so you can start booking shipments right away.
Can I work from anywhere, or do I need to be in a specific location?
You can absolutely work from anywhere. AirFreight.com’s agent program is designed for remote independent agents. All of our systems are cloud-based, so as long as you have a phone, a computer, and an internet connection, you can manage your business from home or any location of your choice. We have successful agents spread across the country – from big cities to small towns. There’s no requirement to be near one of our offices (though you’re welcome to visit!). This flexibility means you can tap into your local market or even national accounts regardless of where you’re based. Work in the environment that suits you best, whether that’s a home office, a co-working space, or on the go.
Will I be an employee of AirFreight.com?
No – AirFreight.com agents are independent contractors, not direct employees. This is what gives you the entrepreneurial freedom at the core of our program. You won’t be on a company salary or 9-to-5 schedule; instead, you earn commissions on the business you generate and you control your day-to-day operations. Being an independent contractor means you get to “work for yourself” – you’re essentially running your own company under our umbrella. Of course, you still benefit from all of AirFreight.com’s support and resources, but you are not micromanaged by a boss. Think of it as being your own boss with AirFreight.com acting as your business partner, not your employer.
