NEXT DAY AIR FREIGHT SERVICES

Freight That Ships Today and Arrives Tomorrow

A next-day promise is only as good as the plan behind it. The pickup has to make the cutoff, the flight has to land on time and a truck has to be waiting at the other end. If one link slips, tomorrow becomes the day after.

AirFreight.com builds that plan for you. We book the flight that fits your ready time, schedule the trucks around it and keep a backup ready, from next flight out to an overnight truck. One expediter manages the shipment and updates you until it is delivered.

Ready time is the detail that decides most next-day shipments. Freight that is ready by early afternoon has the widest choice of flights. Freight that is ready at 6 p.m. may need next flight out, a courier or an overnight truck. Tell us the ready time first, and we'll plan the rest around it.

Here is how next day air freight works and how to pick the right option.

Next-Day Air and Next Flight Out

Pallets and crates book on a flight that delivers tomorrow, or on the first departure with space when the freight is ready late. Trucks handle both ends. Your expediter confirms the cutoff and the recovery time, so the delivery truck is waiting when the flight lands.

Overnight Dedicated Trucks

On regional lanes, a team-driven truck runs through the night with no airport cutoffs. Freight that misses the last flight can still arrive by morning. It also takes heavy or oversized freight that won't fit on a scheduled flight.

The difference

Freight, not parcels

Next day air freight handles the pallets and crates that parcel overnight networks cannot take.

Next day air freight Definition

What next day air freight is

Next day air freight is freight over parcel limits booked on a flight that delivers the next day. Trucks handle pickup at your dock and delivery at the other end.

Parcel overnight services work differently. They move boxes within strict size and weight limits through sorting hubs on fixed schedules. Once a shipment outgrows those limits, or needs a liftgate or a specific delivery time, it becomes air freight.

AirFreight.com arranges next day air freight for shipments of any size. Every shipment is monitored from pickup to delivery.

Timing

Ready time sets the day

The earlier freight is ready, the more flights and delivery windows are open.

Cutoffs Timing

How cutoffs set the delivery window

Airlines usually set a tender cutoff for each flight, including time for acceptance and screening. This means the freight's ready time decides which pickup is possible, whenever a next-day delivery is planned. The pickup then decides which cutoff the freight can make.

The flight decides whether delivery is next morning or next afternoon. If a cutoff is missed, the freight moves to a later flight, which can push delivery back. That is why a backup matters: next flight out on another airline, an air charter or an overnight truck.

Our dispatch team is available around the clock, including weekends and holidays, so you can book next-day freight at any hour. AirFreight.com makes sure your freight meets its cutoff and arrives on time.

Five ways to make tomorrow

Next flight out, scheduled next-day, hand carry, charter or an overnight team truck.

Options Choosing the service

Next-day options by speed and size

When a scheduled next-day flight isn't the right fit for your shipment, next flight out might be the answer. It books the first departure with space, which can mean delivery the same night or early next morning. Scheduled next-day flights suit pallets planned a day ahead.

A hand carrier takes a small critical item on a passenger flight. An air charter flies when nothing scheduled can deliver by tomorrow. For regional distances, an overnight dedicated truck with two drivers can deliver by morning without any airport handoffs.

And when air isn't the right solution, we also offer dedicated ground for shorter lanes. AirFreight.com arranges each of these options and keeps you updated to delivery.

Weight, pallets, distance

Those three facts usually decide between parcel, air freight and an overnight truck.

Decision Parcel or freight

Parcel, air freight or overnight truck

At AirFreight.com, we specialize in next-day freight that moves from your dock to the delivery address with no wasted steps. Small boxes within parcel limits usually go parcel overnight. Pallets, crates and heavy pieces go by next-day air.

Regional distances often favor an overnight truck, especially for very heavy or oversized freight. Weight, pallet count, distance and the delivery address all decide. Choosing the right service up front removes a transfer later, which cuts the risk of a missed delivery window.

Your shipment stays with one expediter from booking to proof of delivery. That person picks the service that fits your freight and your deadline.

Next Day Air Freight Questions Answered

What is next day air freight?

Next day air freight is a service that delivers freight the day after it ships by booking it on a suitable flight, with trucks handling pickup and delivery. It is designed for shipments that are too large or heavy for parcel overnight services, such as pallets, crates and heavy boxes. Delivery may be next morning or next afternoon, depending on the flight and the lane. Next day air freight usually costs more than standard air freight, because the shipment is booked on a specific flight with a delivery commitment rather than waiting for available space.

How does next day air freight differ from next day parcel service?

Next day parcel service moves boxes through a parcel network's sorting hubs on fixed schedules, within strict limits on size and weight per package. It is usually the cheapest option for small boxes going to standard addresses. Next day air freight handles larger shipments, such as pallets and crates, books them on specific flights and uses trucks for pickup and delivery. It can include services such as liftgate delivery or a specific delivery time. A shipment usually moves from parcel to freight once it outgrows the network's limits or needs special handling.

What is a tender cutoff?

A tender cutoff is the latest time freight can be delivered to an airline's cargo terminal and still make a particular flight. Cutoffs leave time for acceptance, security screening, building pallets and loading. They vary by airline, airport and flight. For next-day freight, the cutoff decides which overnight flight the shipment can make, and missing it can push delivery back. Knowing the freight's ready time lets pickup be scheduled so the drive to the airport fits before the cutoff, with a backup in mind if traffic or delays get in the way.

What is next flight out?

Next flight out books freight on the first scheduled flight with available space between two airports, with trucks for pickup and delivery. Unlike scheduled next-day service, which is planned around a specific delivery day, next flight out simply takes the earliest departure that has room. That can mean delivery later the same night or early the next morning. It is one of the fastest scheduled options and costs far less than chartering an aircraft. When flights are full or none fits the deadline, a charter or hand carrier may be needed instead.

What is the difference between an air waybill and a bill of lading?

An air waybill is the shipping document and contract of carriage for air freight. It lists the shipper, consignee, airports, pieces, weight, dimensions and contents, and it acts as a receipt, but it is not a document of title. A bill of lading is the equivalent document for truck and ocean shipments, and an ocean bill of lading can serve as a document of title. Next-day shipments that use trucks to and from the airport may carry a bill of lading for the road legs and an air waybill for the flight itself.

What is a known shipper?

A known shipper is a business whose identity has been verified under the Transportation Security Administration's air cargo security program. Freight from a known shipper can be accepted on passenger aircraft, subject to screening, while freight from an unknown shipper is generally limited to all-cargo aircraft. Known shipper status is managed by the airlines and the companies that tender freight to them. For next-day shipments, it matters because passenger flights add many more overnight and early-morning departures, which can make the difference between delivering tomorrow and the day after.

What is a PRO number?

A PRO number is a tracking number that a truck carrier assigns to a shipment. It appears on the shipping paperwork and labels and is used to track the freight, schedule delivery and match invoices. For next day air freight, the truck legs to and from the airport may each carry a PRO number, while the flight is tracked by the air waybill number. When asking for status, giving the right number for the leg in question gets the fastest answer, which is why many shippers let one contact track every leg.

What does freight delivery mean?

Freight delivery is the final step of a freight shipment, when the goods are brought to the consignee's location and handed over. For freight, delivery often involves more than a parcel drop-off. It may require a dock appointment, a liftgate for sites without a dock, inside delivery or a specific delivery window. The consignee usually signs to confirm receipt, which creates proof of delivery. Problems found at delivery, such as damage or missing pieces, should be noted on the paperwork at that moment, because that record supports any claim later.

What is an overnight dedicated truck?

An overnight dedicated truck is a van or truck assigned to one shipment that drives through the night to deliver the next morning. On longer runs, two drivers take turns so the truck keeps moving within hours-of-service rules. It suits regional lanes where driving direct is faster than airport handling, freight that is ready too late for any flight, oversized freight and hazardous materials that cannot fly. Because there are no transfers, it also reduces handling and the risk of damage on the way.

Is Saturday delivery available for air freight?

Often, yes, but it depends on the lane, the airline schedules and whether the delivery location can receive freight on a Saturday. Many airports and airlines operate cargo flights on weekends, and trucks can deliver on Saturdays when arranged in advance. Weekend handling may cost more, and some consignees, such as offices or plants, may not be open to receive. Confirming the delivery site's hours and having a contact on site are the keys to a successful weekend delivery, especially for freight that needs a dock or a forklift.

What happens if a flight connection is missed?

If freight misses a connection, it usually moves to the next flight with space on the same airline, which may delay delivery. For next-day shipments, a good plan includes alternatives: moving the freight to another airline's flight, sending a hand carrier for small items, booking an air charter when no scheduled flight works, or putting the freight on a dedicated truck for regional distances. The key is acting quickly. One contact who watches the connection can make the switch before the delivery window is lost.
