How air cargo moves in the USA
Air cargo in the USA travels in two main ways. Much of it flies in the lower holds of passenger aircraft, which serve hundreds of routes many times a day. The rest flies on freighters, cargo-only aircraft with large doors and main decks for bigger pallets and heavier loads.
Either way, the flight is only part of the trip. A truck collects the freight and delivers it to the airline's cargo terminal before the cutoff, and after landing another truck recovers it and delivers it to the receiver. For the shipper, the speed of the whole move depends on all three legs working together.
AirFreight.com arranges air cargo across the USA as one shipment, booking the flight and both trucks, from scheduled air freight to charters and same day hand carry.
